               INT. NURSE'S STATION - DAY

Georgeanna approaches the ICU nurse's station. The NURSE on
duty stacks charts on the desk.

                                   GEORGEANNA
Excuse me? Where can I find Mrs.
                         Parrish? Leonora Parrish?

                                   NURSE
Down the hall, second door on the
                         left.

                                   GEORGEANNA
                         Thank you.

Georgeanna treads down the hall to the room. She stands at
the door and peers in at her mother lying on the bed,
bandaged and broken. She hurries back down to the nurse's
               station.

                                   GEORGEANNA (CONT'D)
When can I speak to her doctor?

                                   NURSE
He should be on rounds in about
                         thirty five minutes or so.

                                   GEORGEANNA
Can you tell me where to find the
                         morgue?

                                   NURSE
Take the elevator down to the
basement, go right to the end of
the hall, ring the buzzer. The
                         attendant will let you in.

                                   GEORGEANNA
                         Thanks.

She presses the button for the elevator. It arrives and an
ORDERLY stands next to a covered gurney.

                                   ORDERLY
Would you prefer to wait ma'am?

                                   GEORGEANNA
                         No, that's ok.

               INT. ELEVATOR - CONTINUOUS

Georgeanna rides the elevator in silence with the body and
the orderly. When the elevator arrives in the basement, the
               orderly holds the door.

                                   ORDERLY
Go ahead ma'am. To the right.

               INT. BASEMENT HALLWAY CONTINUOUS

Georgeanna steps down the hallway. The gurney's wheel squeaks
               behind her.

She reaches the door and pushes the buzzer, and the door
unlocks. An ATTENDANT sits behind the counter.

                                   ATTENDANT
                         Would you please sign in?

                                   GEORGEANNA
                         Uh, what for?

                                   ATTENDANT
                         Everybody that comes through that
door has to sign in ma'am.

                                   GEORGEANNA
                         I see.

She signs her name on the form. The door buzzes again and the
               gurney wheels in.

                                   ATTENDANT
                         'Sup?

                                   ORDERLY
                         Delivery.

He signs the form and pushes past Georgeanna as another door
               buzzes open.

                                   ATTENDANT
Now, how can I help you ma'am?

                                   GEORGEANNA
I believe my father is here.

                                   ATTENDANT
                         Name?

                                   GEORGEANNA
                         Parrish. George.

The attendant searches for a file and produces one. He pulls
out some papers and a photograph.

                                   ATTENDANT
Ma'am, I have to warn you that this
                         was an accident.

                                   GEORGEANNA
                         I understand.

               He hands her the photo.

                                   GEORGEANNA (CONT'D)
                             (a beat)
                         That's him.

                                   ATTENDANT
Okay if you will just sign here.

               She signs.

                                   ATTENDANT (CONT'D)
And here, with initials here and
                         here.

               She signs again.

                                   ATTENDANT (CONT'D)
Which funeral home should pick up
                         the remains?

                                   GEORGEANNA
                         Wait. That's it?

                                   ATTENDANT
                         Yes ma'am.

                                   GEORGEANNA
I don't have to actually see him?

                                   ATTENDANT
                         No ma'am.

                                   GEORGEANNA
                         I see.
                             (a beat)
                         McAlester's.

                                   ATTENDANT
Will do. They are fine folks.
                         Here's your copy.

               INT. BASEMENT HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS

Georgeanna pushes out the door. She passes another gurney as
she strides away from the morgue.

INT. HOSPITAL ROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Georgeanna stands again at the doorway of her mother's room.

                                   GEORGEANNA
                         Mom?

She ventures into the room a few steps.

                                   GEORGEANNA (CONT'D)
                         Mom?

She grabs the pillow off the chair and holds it to her chest
as she stands next to the bed. She hesitates. DR. LOWREY
               enters the room behind her.

                                   DR. LOWREY
                         It leaves tell-tale pinpoints of
                         blood in the eyes.

                                   GEORGEANNA
                         Pardon?

                                   DR. LOWREY
                         Petechial hemorrhage caused by
                         smothering.

He eases the pillow from her.

                                   DR. LOWREY (CONT'D)
                         I'm Dr. Lowrey.

               Georgeanna collects her composure.

                                   GEORGEANNA
                         Yes yes of course. Georgeanna
                         Ramsey.

                                   DR. LOWREY
I know this is difficult for you.

He puts the pillow high up on the patient closet.

                                   GEORGEANNA
                         Is she dying?

                                   DR. LOWREY
                         No. Disappointed?

                                   GEORGEANNA
Honestly? Yes. And no. I mean,
she's my mom. I'm just so angry.
                         Still. After all these years.

                                   DR. LOWREY
                         I see.

                                   GEORGEANNA
                         I'm sorry. That was totally
                         inappropriate.

                                   DR. LOWREY
I think you'd be surprised what
                         people tell me.

                                   GEORGEANNA
                         What happens now?

                                   DR. LOWREY
Well, she's pretty beat up, and the
                         swelling in her brain is
problematic. We will have to keep
her in a coma until that goes down.

                                   GEORGEANNA
                         And then?

                                   DR. LOWREY
                         And then we'll see.

                                   GEORGEANNA
                         Can someone call me then?

                                   DR. LOWREY
                         I understand. There's really
nothing for you to do here anyway.

                                   GEORGEANNA
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to
                         go bury my father.

               She pulls the door open.

                                   DR. LOWREY
                         I'm sorry for your loss.

                                   GEORGEANNA
                         Don't be. I hated him.
